Apple wants to release the foldable iPhone in 2026 despite production problems

New information about the foldable iPhone model, which Apple has been working on for a long time, shows that there is a limited delay in the production process. According to the information shared by DigiTimes, the production schedule of the model called “iPhone Fold” has shifted back by approximately one to two months. Despite this, it is stated that Apple did not notify the supply chain side of an official launch postponement, so the introduction plan in the autumn of 2026 is maintained.

It was previously stated that the company aims to start mass production for the foldable iPhone in June 2026. However, in the current situation, it seems that this calendar has shifted to the beginning of August. This change indicates that the production process will proceed with a more tight schedule, suggesting that Apple is trying to compensate for the delay. On the other hand, claims that there were more technical difficulties than expected during the engineering verification tests were also brought to the agenda.

Testing stages play a critical role in the iPhone Fold production process

The foldable iPhone model is currently in the phase called Engineering Validation Test. During this process, it is tested whether the hardware and basic functions of the device work as expected. In addition, in order for the product to be ready for the market, it must go through the Design Validation Testing and Production Validation Testing stages. All these steps are decisive for the durability and manufacturability of the device before mass production.

Recently, Japan-based Nikkei claimed that delays in the testing process could postpone the release date of the device to 2027. Despite this, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the iPhone Fold model could be introduced in the same period as the iPhone 18 Pro series or shortly after, that is, around September 2026. DigiTimes’ latest report brings these two different claims together. Accordingly, although there was a delay in the testing phase, it is understood that Apple aims to balance the schedule by accelerating the mass production process.

However, it is stated that the shift in mass production may put pressure on the supply chain. Especially since it is a first generation product, it seems likely that the iPhone Fold will go on sale with limited stock at the time of its launch. It is known that similar production problems that occurred in the early stages of iPhone models in the past caused the devices to run out in a short time during the pre-order process. It is possible that this situation will repeat for the foldable iPhone.

According to expectations, iPhone Fold will offer a screen of 5.5 inches when closed and 7.8 inches when open. It is estimated that the price of the model, which is expected to be Apple’s first foldable device, will be positioned between 2000 and 2500 dollars. This price level shows that the device will target more upper segment users.

The emerging information reveals that Apple is taking a cautious but determined approach to entering the foldable phone market. Maintaining the launch plan despite the delay on the production side reflects the company’s intention to meet the schedule by accelerating the development process. On the other hand, production and supply limitations that can be seen in the first generation products may directly affect the accessibility of the iPhone Fold when it goes on sale.
