Apple’s Apple Wallet car key feature, which allows you to unlock and start your vehicle via iPhone and Apple Watch, continues to spread to new car brands. After manufacturers such as Toyota and Rivian recently joined the system, now Porsche support has become official. According to user shares, the Apple Wallet car key feature can now be used in the 2026 Porsche Macan EV model.
The digital car key system, introduced by Apple a few years ago, performs the functions of unlocking, turning off and starting the engine of the vehicle without the need for a physical key. Thanks to Ultra Wideband technology in supported models, the doors can be opened automatically when the user approaches the vehicle. In addition, it is also possible to share the digital key securely with family members or other users via the Wallet application.
Porsche previously announced that both the Macan EV and Cayenne EV models will support Apple’s car key system. However, as global deliveries of the Macan EV have become more common in recent months, the feature is only now being verified by new users. Shares on Reddit also reveal that the system is actively working.
Apple’s car key system expands to more brands
In its statement last year, Apple stated that 13 new car brands would offer Wallet-based car key support. Brands featured on this list so far include Toyota and electric vehicle maker Rivian. Despite this, the expected support from General Motors has not been made available yet. Although it has been announced that Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC brands will gain Apple Wallet car key support, the process is not completed.
On the other hand, the order process has started for the 2026 Cayenne EV, which will be Porsche’s second supported model. The first deliveries are expected to be made in August. Thus, in the second half of the year, two different electric models of Porsche will support the Apple Wallet car key feature.
In addition, Apple’s digital car key system is becoming an increasingly common standard for automobile manufacturers. Smartphone-centric access solutions are more preferred, especially in the premium and electric vehicle segments. These systems, which reduce the need for users to carry physical keys, provide additional convenience in daily use with functions such as remote access and sharing.
