Apple will purchase the entire first batch of telephoto camera sensors for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models from LG. The claim was brought to the agenda by the South Korean publication The Elec.
According to the report, the South Korean component manufacturer has received a full order for the first batch of foldable zoom modules. LG will also provide the optical image stabilization (OIS) actuator in partnership with Jahwa Electronics.
Apple is said to be supplying more than half of the telephoto sensors that it will use in the Pro and Pro Max from LG Innotek. According to some sources, these orders will account for about 70 percent of all estimated sales. At a later stage, Foxconn and Cowell will manufacture these sensors as part of Apple’s cost-cutting efforts. The two companies will start production in the fourth quarter of the year.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max to come with Tetraprism camera
LG Innotek was also the sole supplier of the telephoto module used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year. Although Sharp was expected to join the process this year, the Japanese company decided to withdraw from the process. This year, both the Pro and Pro Max will get a Tetraprism camera with 5x optical zoom.
