Apple removes limits for Siri: New AI integrations are coming

Apple is preparing for a significant change for Siri with the iOS 27 update. According to information provided by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is working on a system that will allow users to choose which artificial intelligence chat bot will work with Siri. This approach shows that Apple intends to further expand a structure similar to the ChatGPT integration currently developed by OpenAI. In addition, users will be able to use different artificial intelligence applications that they download from the App Store in integration with Siri.

Within the scope of this innovation, it will be possible for alternatives such as Google’s Gemini model or Claude developed by Anthropic to generate responses via Siri. Despite this, it is stated that Apple plans to establish a structure based on user preference, rather than placing this integration directly at the center of the system. This reveals that the company continues its privacy and control-oriented approach. On the other hand, bringing different artificial intelligence services together on the same platform can pave the way for a more flexible experience in the iOS ecosystem.

Apple will start a new era with the “Extensions” system for Siri

According to the information provided, Apple aims to offer this integration structure through a system called “Extensions”. Thanks to this system, users will be able to manually turn on and off which chatbot services will work with Siri. In addition, this feature will not be limited to iPhone only; It can be used similarly on iPad and Mac devices. However, it is stated that an independent application specific to the new artificial intelligence-focused Siri version that Apple is developing will also benefit from these integrations.

It is also stated that the new Siri experience will not only be question-answer focused, but will also have a structure that can perform operations on behalf of the user between applications. In addition, it seems possible that different artificial intelligence models can provide more comprehensive results by sharing tasks. Although this approach requires a more technically complex structure, it appears that Apple is seeking to increase its competitiveness in this field.

Apple’s work in the field of artificial intelligence has recently come to the fore with various delays and restructurings. Despite this, the company confirmed in its statement in January that it was working on cooperation with Google. This collaboration will not only be limited to improving Siri’s response quality; It is also stated that the Gemini model can also be used to train Apple’s smaller-scale artificial intelligence systems.

In addition to all this, Apple is expected to introduce new operating system versions at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) as every year. Other platform updates, especially iOS 27, are expected to be announced at the event, which is planned to start on June 8. In this context, it is expected that the details of the new artificial intelligence integrations to be added to Siri will be officially shared.
