Apple may release its first foldable device in 2026

According to the news of the South Korea-based site The Elec; Apple is working on a foldable device that can replace the iPad mini. It is said that this device may be released in 2026 or 2027 and the 7-inch screen can increase to 8 inches when opened.

Claims that the Cupertino-based company may release an iPad mini with an OLED screen in 2026 have also come to the fore before. Therefore, The Elec’s claim is confusing. It remains unclear whether the device in question will be a foldable iPhone or iPad.

Regardless of the device type, it is stated that Apple is in contact with manufacturers such as Samsung and LG for this project. It is said that both Samsung and LG sent foldable screen samples to the technology giant.

It is claimed that Samsung is ahead of its competitors in the panel development and supply race. However, the news also states that the parties have different opinions on issues such as ultra-thin glasses, cover windows and hinge design. It is said that the output of the device may be delayed due to these differences.

Apple may also release a foldable device with a 20.5-inch screen

It is stated that if Apple chooses to release the device in 2026, it will use Samsung’s existing OLED production line. OLED panels currently used in iPhones are also produced on this line. Rumors also mention a device with a 20.5-inch foldable screen, but there is no sign of the release of this device yet.

It is still unclear how Apple will enter the foldable device market. However, this latest development shows that the company will not stay away from this product category. While brands such as Samsung and Huawei currently stand out in the foldable screen market, Apple seems to be aiming for an entry that will differentiate itself from its competitors.
