Apple may not release new Mac Pro in 2026

The future of the Apple Mac Pro model seems to be in limbo. According to the latest news shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, the Mac Pro is not expected to be renewed anytime soon. There is even a possibility that Apple will completely remove this product series from its desktop strategy.

According to Gurman’s claim, Apple has completely abandoned the M4 Ultra chip, which was previously planned to be developed for the Mac Pro. Instead, the M5 Ultra chip, designed for high-performance desktop users, is being worked on. However, it is stated that this new chip will only be included in Mac Studio models and will not be used in Mac Pro. This shows that Apple is seriously questioning the role of the Mac Pro in its desktop product range.

Apple did not hesitate to try different designs for Mac Pro

Although the Mac Pro has become a major option for creative professionals over the years, Apple’s interest in the model has waned over time. After a bold design experiment that resembled a “trash can” in 2013, the Mac Pro was repositioned with a more traditional “grater” design in 2019. Finally, in 2023, Apple switched this series to Apple Silicon architecture with the M2 Ultra chip. But even this update was not enough to strengthen Mac Pro’s position in the industry.

Despite this, it is observed that Apple customers now prefer Mac Studio to meet their high-performance desktop needs. The fact that the M4 series was developed only for Mac Studio and the Mac Pro was excluded reveals that this trend is also accepted within Apple. According to Gurman, Apple has now made Mac Studio the main focus for professional desktop users.

On the other hand, considering the steps Apple has taken in chip design and hardware strategy in recent years, it is not surprising that the company is turning to more compact and efficient systems. While Mac Studio reaches more users with its small form factor, it also manages to capture the power offered by Mac Pro in terms of performance. Additionally, in terms of pricing, Mac Studio stands out as a more accessible option for professional users.

Although the Mac Pro once stood out as the most powerful hardware solution that Apple offered to its professional users, the company’s current product strategy has caused this model to gradually remain in the background. Especially thanks to the scalable performance offered by its own production Apple Silicon chips, high-level processing power can be offered in more compact models. This reduces the need for large and expensive workstations.
