Apple is preparing to verify real camera capture of iPhone photos

Reference Image codes indicate that certain sensor information and photo metadata may remain in the system after verification.

This verification does not in itself prove that the event described by the photo is true, it only provides information about the source of the image. Fields where source verification is important, such as journalism and law, can benefit from this information. However, it is not yet clear how the obligation to use the special Reference mode, how social networks will reprocess photos, and how non-Apple platforms will display verification information. Apple may add the feature to the final version of iOS 27, change it, or remove it during development.
