Apple is preparing to radically solve the screen problem for the foldable iPhone

New technical details continue to emerge about Apple’s foldable iPhone model, which has been on the agenda for a long time. According to the latest supply chain news, the company is working on a different panel structure in an attempt to reduce screen wrinkling and increase durability. While manufacturers are developing different solutions to reduce screen print, which is one of the biggest problems of foldable phones, it is claimed that Apple has adopted a similar but more advanced approach. Despite this, it is known that no official statement has been made by Apple yet and the development process continues in secret.

According to the information shared by Digital Chat Station, known for its reliable leaks in the industry, Apple can use different glass layers called UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and UFG together in the foldable iPhone model. In this approach, the screen is designed to consist of multiple layers instead of a single glass layer. However, the display panel is planned to be positioned between the glass layers instead of directly contacting the hinge mechanism. This type of structure has the potential to reduce deformations that occur especially in long-term use.

Apple may bring new approach to wrinkle problem on skippable screens

Although foldable devices offer the advantage of portability and large screens, due to constant opening and closing, a wrinkle may appear on the screen surface, which becomes evident over time. This stands out as an important technical limitation that directly affects the user experience. The double-layer glass structure, which Apple is said to be working on, aims to alleviate this problem by distributing the pressure in the hinge area. In addition, the multi-layer structure aims to increase the overall durability of the screen.

On the other hand, it is also claimed that the screen technology in question may have a self-healing feature. In this system, the aim is for the screen surface to gain a smoother appearance by reducing micro-level deformations over time. Although this technology has not yet been confirmed, it is known that a similar approach is used in the Find N6 model introduced by Oppo. The solution Oppo calls “Auto-Smoothing Flex Glass” ensures that screen wrinkles become less noticeable throughout the period of use.

In addition, it is known that Apple has long focused on supply chain and material innovation in display technologies. The company had developed different glass and coating solutions to increase durability in products such as iPhone and Apple Watch. A similar engineering approach is expected to be applied further in a foldable iPhone model. Despite this, the production costs and long-term durability of foldable screens are still among the issues discussed throughout the industry.

There are various claims that Apple’s first foldable iPhone model may be introduced in 2026. Although an exact date has not been given, it is predicted that the company aims to produce a more mature product by benefiting from the experiences of rival manufacturers.
