Apple disables the old homeite system in autumn

Apple has carried its HOMEKIT platform, which has been used for years in the field of smart home technologies, to a new architecture in 2022. This architectural change was developed to ensure that the system works more stable. In the first place, users were released to stay in the current version or switch to the new structure. However, Apple is now preparing to eliminate this preference.

According to new information in the iOS 18.6 beta version, the company will fully end the support for its former HOMEKIT architecture. This transition will take place in the autumn of 2025. Apple warns users to update already. Otherwise, it is stated that there may be serious problems in automations and accessory connections.

Apple with iOS 18.6 beta offers two ways for update

In the past, the “accessory does not respond” error, which has frequently encountered by homeland users, was one of the most controversial aspects of the system. This problem usually appears without any explanation, users were desperate. To correct the situation, it was necessary to turn off and open the devices or start the router again. Such experiences were among the factors that questioned HOMEKİT’s reliability.

Apple redesigned the home application with iOS 16 and strengthened the infrastructure. Thanks to this new structure, a more stable home -working experience was targeted. Users could switch to new architecture if they want, or if they want to continue to use the existing system. However, it became clear that it would not be possible to stay in the old system anymore.

In the iOS 18.4 beta version, Apple’s first signals of this transition was seen. In the lines included in the codes, warnings that the home application will not work with old architecture attracted attention. Then, this information was officially gained in the support documents published. Apple, the support page in the autumn of 2025, the old architecture will be completely out of use, he said.

With the iOS 18.6 beta version, messages on this issue became more evident. In the new beta version, two different update ways are clearly mentioned to the user. Some systems will be automatically imposed on new architecture, but in some houses, this process will need to be manual. Early update is recommended to prevent users from experiencing grievances.

Apple’s approach can directly affect users with different hardware structures. In particular, users with old devices that do not support iOS 16 or more may have to update hardware to use new architecture. This may require receiving new devices to maintain the homeland experience. Although the company does not make a clear explanation on this issue, this possibility is not ignored.

In addition, it is not yet finalized according to the criteria of automatic transition. Apple will automatically spend devices that are probably compatible with their new architecture. However, in case of incompatibility, the user can be expected to intervene. This can complicate the transition process for users.

In addition, Apple’s support to the HOMEYIT platform to new architecture means changes in terms of developers. Applicants may have to update systems based on old architecture. This transition concerns not only users, but all elements that make up the ecosystem. Therefore, a comprehensive transformation process is experiencing.
