Apple has officially confirmed that a limited number of positions in the sales department have been terminated. While layoffs are a common practice in the tech industry, Apple is generally known for taking such steps as a last resort. The Cupertino-based company announced that it offered affected employees the opportunity to apply for positions opened in other departments.
The first details on the subject were conveyed to the public by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. “We are making some changes to our sales team in order to reach more customers, and these changes affect a small number of positions. Our recruitment processes are still ongoing and affected employees can apply for new positions,” Apple said in a statement to Bloomberg.
Apple is restructuring its sales strategy
This statement also coincides with some posts made on LinkedIn in recent weeks. It was observed on the platform that various Apple employees announced that they were dismissed. Most of the people laid off stated that their roles were ending as part of a restructuring of the sales strategy.
Mark Gurman’s news also included different evaluations beyond the message reflected to the public that Apple took this decision for the purpose of increasing efficiency. Some laid-off employees argue that Apple is now turning more of its sales strategies to third-party vendors and outside sources. This situation is directly interpreted as the narrowing of sales operations within the company.
This approach by Apple suggests that the company may tend to focus on channels that are not under its direct control. However, Apple has not yet made an official statement regarding the scope or details of such outsourcing.
However, it is emphasized that Apple is still recruiting in some departments. The company states that affected employees will be re-evaluated for new positions based on availability.
Apple’s staff reductions are not uncommon in the company’s history. However, a similar step was taken last year and hundreds of positions were terminated, especially after the canceled Apple Car project. In this context, not only the teams in the automotive field but also the personnel working in some service departments were affected. This situation reveals that when Apple cancels large-scale projects, there are inevitably changes in its organizational structure.
This personnel reduction, which occurred after the Apple Car initiative was canceled in 2024, shows that the company has adopted an employment approach directly linked to the projects. The recent layoffs in the sales department are also associated with the goal of increasing operational efficiency, with a similar logic.
