Apple's plans to develop a MicroLED display for the Apple Watch have reportedly been canceled due to cost and development complexity. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, it is stated that the company made this decision at the same time as the decision to stop working on a self-driving car. This confirms an earlier rumor by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo stated that the MicroLED display developed in-house “production costs prevent it from being economically feasible.” By discontinuing the project, Apple has cut “several dozen” engineering jobs at its own display manufacturing facility in California.
