Apple shared new details about the usage limits that will be applied to Apple Intelligence features and which services these limits will cover. According to the support document published by the company; Server-side features such as Siri AI, Image Playground, and some advanced photo editing tools will be subject to certain usage quotas in the future. When the user reaches the quota, access to the relevant features will be temporarily suspended and reopened after a certain period of time. Apple is not yet announcing the numerical values of these limits or when they will be implemented. However, the company clearly confirms that more usage rights beyond standard limits will be available for a fee.
While announcing Apple Intelligence innovations within the scope of WWDC26, Apple stated that processes that require powerful server models, especially image production, will not be unlimited. In addition, it was announced that most iCloud+ subscription packages will provide higher usage rights for Apple Intelligence. The company repeated the same approach at the “Surprise and Shine” event, but did not share figures on how much free usage rights users will have or to what extent the iCloud + subscription will increase the quota. Although Apple’s new support document draws a more detailed framework on this issue, the exact quotas are still unknown. Therefore, it is not yet clear how many times a day or month a particular feature, which is one of the most critical details for the user, can be used.
What features will Apple Intelligence usage limits cover?
According to the information provided by Apple, Siri AI is one of the services that may be subject to restrictions. Smart photo editing tools such as Clean Up, Extend and Spatial Reframing are also among the features that benefit from server resources. AFM 3 Cloud and AFM 3 Cloud Pro models, which can be used in Shortcuts along with Image Playground, also fall within the same scope. In addition, developers’ applications that use Apple Foundation Models via Private Cloud Compute may also be affected by usage limits. While Apple points out that this list may expand in the future, it also states that quotas will not be applied equally to all features.
According to the company, only the number of requests made by the user will be taken into account when determining the usage limit. The complexity of the request, the current density in the system, Apple’s system policies and other variables may also be used. Therefore, a simple Siri AI query and the process of producing an image that requires more computing power do not need to be evaluated from the same quota. If the specified limit is reached, the feature will not be completely removed, but the user will not be able to benefit from that service for a period of time. There are more concrete limits on the use of Apple Intelligence with the Home app and compatible home cameras. According to the information provided by Apple, the number of cameras that some artificial intelligence features, such as video summaries, will support will directly depend on the iCloud + package. A maximum of one camera in a 2 TB iCloud+ subscription will be able to benefit from these features. In the 6 TB package, the limit will increase to two cameras, and in the 12 TB package, the limit will increase to five cameras. However, Apple specifically states that the number of supported cameras and other features offered with iCloud+ packages may change over time.
Use of Siri AI and Apple Intelligence will also be covered under the Apple Intelligence Terms of Use. These terms include various penalties for use that is excessive, abusive, automated, fraudulent, illegal, or otherwise deemed unreasonable by the company. Apple may slow down access, impose additional limits, or temporarily suspend activities that significantly impact the availability of the service or other users. When determining whether a form of use is reasonable, the amount and frequency of use, as well as the complexity of requests, system demand and usage patterns can be evaluated. These articles create a tighter framework for users and applications that send large numbers of AI requests, especially through automation.
The terms of use also give Apple the right to investigate violations and restrict, suspend or completely terminate access to Apple Intelligence features when deemed necessary.
