Apple acquires photo editing software Pixelmator

Apple has acquired the popular photo editing software Pixelmator. In the statement made by the Pixelmator team, it was stated that there will be no significant changes in existing applications for now, and that the acquisition is subject to the regulatory approval process. Pixelmator, which has been in the industry for 17 years, has reached a widespread user base, especially in the Apple ecosystem, with its powerful tools such as Pixelmator Pro and Photomator. This move by Apple is considered a strategic step towards further strengthening the services it offers for creative professionals.

The Pixelmator team stated that Apple has been a source of inspiration for years and that their products were developed in accordance with Apple’s design and performance standards. With this merger, Pixelmator aims to reach a wider audience worldwide and create a greater impact. On the other hand, considering the strategy Apple has previously followed in such acquisitions, it is anticipated that some features of Pixelmator may be integrated into Apple’s built-in applications in the future. As a matter of fact, Apple carried out a similar integration process by purchasing the Dark Sky weather application in 2020.

Pixelmator’s advanced tools and user-friendly features

Pixelmator and Photomator stand out with the artificial intelligence and machine learning supported features they offer. In particular, Pixelmator Pro responds to users’ needs with professional photo editing tools and stands out with features such as automatic selection, background removal and “Super Resolution”. Photomator, on the other hand, appeals to professional and amateur photographers with its functions such as over 30 color settings, batch editing and AI-supported fast photo editing. In addition, the application provides high performance by taking advantage of Apple’s technologies such as Core ML and Metal, and is fully compatible with iOS and macOS.

Although Apple usually carries out its acquisitions without announcing it, its acquisition of a strong brand like Pixelmator can be interpreted as a remarkable move in the technology world. With this merger, Apple is one step closer to its goal of gaining a strong position in photo editing software. We will see over time how Pixelmator’s powerful infrastructure and artificial intelligence-supported tools will be integrated into Apple’s existing applications.

While no changes are foreseen for Pixelmator users for now, it is thought that a more comprehensive integration process may be carried out in Apple’s photo editing solutions in the future.
