Honor View 10 is a high-end phone at a very economic price. It is a phone with lots of memory and a spectacular battery. The Honor View 10, a very complete mobile at the level of performance.
Honor View 10: The high range of Honor bets on reduced frames
Honor was born as the second brand of Huawei, a brand aimed at a more youthful audience, with more daring designs and a stronger commitment to the quality / price ratio. Generation after generation, is a brand that has become really competitive. The Honor View 10 (Honor V10) comes to replace the Honor 8 Pro with better performance, and price that is placed under the barrier of 623 USD ( 40,000 INR).
We already anticipate that Honor View 10 is one of the best, although it depends on your tastes and needs. During the review we will be detailing the most differential aspects, those that go beyond the technical specifications. A tab that we also show you below.

Improving the idea of elongated screens
The past 2017 was a turning point in the world of mobile technology. Looking to increase the size of the screens without increasing the size or weight of the terminal. The elongated format arrived; also known as 18: 9 or 2:1. This new format allows us to expand the viewing experience, and has been accepted by the general public.
However, this design change has also come with much controversy. Manufacturers who had the fingerprint reader on the front have placed it on the back (sometimes, quite badly), while others have had to change the location of the front camera, or directly maintain it, forming a notch . All very original designs, but with the idea of taking it to the extreme , the practical sense has been lost.
The Honor View 10 is for now, the terminal that in my view has best implementation of an elongated screen . The front camera and the various sensors are in place, while at the bottom we have a fingerprint reader. If you like the fingerprint sensor on the front, it is likely that Honor’s decision seems the most appropriate. Consequently, it is slightly higher than other models with a similar size screen, something reasonable to some extent. The back of the terminal is made of a completely smooth metal.
The construction quality is excellent and we have two colors available in Spain, blue and black. Mention also that it is a metal that gets dirty easily, which makes the device a bit shabby.
The lateral edges do have a small curvature that facilitates the grip, which we appreciate, if we consider the dimensions of the device. In the lower area we have the USB charging port type C, speaker and headphone jack, while in the upper area we have an infrared port, to control the television. We also liked the finish of the power button.
How has this phone worked in recent days
Huawei; and by extension, Honor; is a manufacturer that bets to offer its own batch processors whenever possible. In this case, we have a Kirin 970; same processor as the Huawei Mate 10 ; 6 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage . And eye, because they are memories of great speed, something that has surprised us a lot. To make matters worse, we can enter a microSD memory card in the second slot of the SIM.
The operation during these days has been up to what we expected. Although Emui is a layer with many add-ons, it does not interfere with system performance, which is fast and fluid. The applications open without any kind of delay and the games work at a very good level of fluency . In the most demanding games we will notice that rivals with the Snapdragon 835 processor feel a little more fluid, but it is not a noticeable difference either.
I was very surprised by the energy management of the system, which together with a large battery makes the autonomy of Honor View 10 be; without fear of being wrong; the best in its price range. It is a battery that if you do not get much cane you will last a couple of days, and if you make a demanding use, it will be very difficult that you do not get over 30% at the end of the day.
To accompany its good battery, Honor includes an ultra-fast charging system capable of operating at 22.5 W (5 V / 4.5 A). Despite the extra amperage, since it has a bigger battery than usual, in the end we will end up having the phone charged in an hour and a quarter approximately.
Speaking of the multimedia section, we have a 5.99-inch IPS screen. The level of brightness and viewing angles are decent, and from the software itself we can calibrate the color temperature to our liking. Even with all this, it is not a panel that stands out or impresses you. Of the sound we can say the same, and it fulfills, but it does not stand out either.
EMUI as a customization layer, and its best additions
An increasingly important part when it comes to talking about the experience of using a mobile phone is the software that accompanies it, which can make an excellent mobile phone improve or even make a mobile worthwhile. With the layers of personalization it is always difficult to make an assessment, because although some parts if we can determine them objectively, many others depend on the user’s tastes.
Talking about Emui is always complicated, since it is a layer that lovers of pure Android tend to even judge bad without going deeply. A few months ago I explained in detail why Emui seems to me an excellent layer , and that I recommend reading if you want to be aware of everything that the Huawei system can offer. In this review; However; I am going to focus on the aspects that we have considered most important.
The most important of all would say that it is the Android version. The Honor View 10 has Android 8.0 Oreo , with Android security patch as of January 1, 2018, and supports Project Treble , the new Android feature that allows faster updates for manufacturers. The developers of ROMs have already demonstrated their potential, although it is a matter of time to know if Huawei and Honor end up taking advantage of this feature for good.
Facial unlocking, that technology that has been on Android since 2011 and with the iPhone X is back in fashion (in part, because this phone is very difficult to cheat). The Honor View 10 also integrates its own facial recognition system. This system offers us the option to unlock the screen directly or hide the content of the notifications until it recognizes us, and have to swipe to unlock.
The effectiveness of facial recognition is good in general conditions, since I tried to deceive him with my photographs and he has not recognized that it was me . However, in low light conditions Honor says that the system loses precision.
In the end, the facial recognition system is not a system that I have finished using in my day to day, and that is due to the excellent fingerprint reader , located on the front of the mobile. It is precise and instantaneous, and I can unlock the mobile by having it on the table without the need to pick it up, to have to look at the mobile and to recognize me.
Not only that, but the fingerprint reader can function as a control system. With a simple press we make the function of back, if we keep pressed we will go to the home screen and if we slide by the button we will go to the recent screen. To activate the Google assistant, you will have to scroll from the lower area of the screen to appear.
If this system does not convince you, you can enable the traditional Android navigation bar. In this mode, the fingerprint reader will continue to work, and function will take us to the home screen. It may seem silly, but it is useful to leave a game, video or application that is in full screen, skipping the process of sliding to show the navigation bar and press the start button.
One of the most criticizable points of Emui without a doubt is the appearance of the layer . While the launcher can change it for one that we like more, the curtain of notifications and quick adjustments at the end ends up being a little ugly. There are themes on Google Play that allow us to look like Android Oreo, so from that point of view, the experience improves a lot. That is, it is only physical aspect, since the animations of the system will remain the same.
A new feature that I liked is in the photo gallery. If you delete a photograph, it will go to a recycling bin , where it will remain for 30 days. If we delete a photograph by accident, we will have a month to recover it. The best thing about the application is that when you delete a photograph, it shows you a message indicating that you can recover it, which is what makes it great.
As more and more layers of customization, Emui also includes a game mode. From this menu you can configure the level of performance you want for the games and block the notifications that appear while you are playing. It is not a new or exclusive feature, but it is increasingly important to keep it in mind.
Finally, let’s talk about the bloatware . Emui includes many pre-installed applications that we probably do not need . Mention also that we can uninstall almost all (and those that can not, we can disable). It is not major problem, but if nuisance that we do not have to spend on a mobile this price.
Who do I recommend this mobile
Honestly, I think the Honor View 10 is one of those phones that any user of an “intensive” profile will enjoy, thanks to everything running at a great fluidity, and the battery endures a real barbarity.
Surely the hardest barrier for someone who has an interest in this phone may reside in the Huawei customization layer . The truth is that my EMUI seems a very good layer of personalization, since without penalizing performance, it adds many functions that do not hurt to have. The aesthetic aspect could be a strong reason to opt for this mobile phone or not. I’ve already told you that through themes and a change of launcher it gains a lot, but even with those, it does not have the animations that Android has pure.
Another user profile that would have to pay attention to this mobile is one that enjoys installing ROMs. If you are of this type of users, Honor is betting heavily on XDA, giving away devices to the developers and with a very open policy. That together with Project Treble, it is easier than ever to carry a ROM. This is a feature that we will not know in what remains for a few months, so it is still early to know whether or not it is a compelling reason.
