At the AWS re:Invent 2024 conference in Las Vegas, Amazon introduced a series of artificial intelligence (AI) core models under its new “Nova” brand, accessible through the AWS Bedrock platform. This initiative aims to increase the company’s competitiveness in the field of artificial intelligence. There are currently three “understanding” models available:
- Amazon Nova Micro: A text-oriented model designed for speed and cost optimization.
- Amazon Nova Lite: A low-cost multimodal model that can generate text by processing various inputs such as text, images, and video.
- Amazon Nova Pro: A multi-mode model with advanced capabilities, capable of performing complex tasks.
The company is also working on “Nova Premier”, which will be its most capable model for complex reasoning tasks, and this model is planned to be available in early 2025.
Amazon also announced Nova Canvas and Nova Reel models
The company, which also offers innovations in the field of content production, has developed an image creation model called “Nova Canvas” and a video creation model called “Nova Reel”. These models are equipped with watermarking features to encourage responsible AI use. For example, an advertising campaign created with Nova Reel for a fake pasta brand demonstrates the potential of this technology.
A model capable of speech-to-speech translation and a model offering fully native multi-modal features are also planned to be released in 2025.
Amazon is developing a large AI computing cluster using Trainium 2 chips to strengthen competition in the AI ecosystem. Built in collaboration with Anthropic, this cluster will be the largest AI computing cluster in the world when completed, allowing Anthropic to develop future models.
The company predicts that large businesses will be able to adapt to artificial intelligence solutions more easily, thanks to the global reliability of AWS infrastructure. For example, at the re:Invent event, an Apple executive expressed their confidence in Amazon’s custom AI chips.
In addition to Nova models, Amazon is also working on a new artificial intelligence-supported Alexa version. However, the release of this version has been postponed to 2025.
