Adobe brings Firefly AI Assistant into Photoshop and Premiere

Adobe announced a comprehensive update for Firefly AI Assistant, which it introduced earlier in the year. While the company has made its artificial intelligence-supported tool more capable, which can work between Creative Cloud applications and perform multi-step workflows on behalf of the user, it has also begun to integrate it directly into Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Frame.io. Along with the announcement, the renewed version of the Firefly creative artificial intelligence studio was also previewed.

One of the prominent innovations of the update was the improvement of Firefly AI Assistant’s ability to preserve context. Thanks to Adobe’s new feature called “Elements”, users can save the characters, objects or places they have previously created. These contents can be reused in subsequent productions. This makes it easier to maintain visual consistency in storytelling, advertising campaigns or long-term creative projects. This feature is noteworthy in terms of maintaining the same design language, especially in projects where different teams work together.

In addition, Adobe also introduces new project organization tools that make it easier to access past work. Users can now group the content and productions they create under specific projects. In this way, it becomes more practical to return to previously produced visuals, videos or design elements and re-evaluate them.

Adobe Firefly AI Assistant gains new creative skills

The innovations announced by Adobe are not limited to organizational tools only. The company has also added new creative capabilities to Firefly AI Assistant. One of these is brand identity creation support. Artificial intelligence can now transfer the specified logo, color palette and design style to different content. Thus, it is aimed to achieve a more consistent appearance among the visual materials prepared for a brand.

On the other hand, there are also remarkable innovations on the video side. Firefly AI Assistant can now create rough cuts from multiple video clips. In addition, the ability to produce videos from storyboards has also been added to the system. These features are among the tools that can save time, especially in the early stages of video production processes.

Another step by Adobe was to embed Firefly AI Assistant directly into Creative Cloud applications. Although users could previously perform various operations through artificial intelligence, there was no direct chat and control interface in Photoshop or Premiere. With the new update, this deficiency is corrected. Users can directly interact with Firefly AI Assistant through the new interface presented as a sidebar in supported applications.

According to Adobe, the main purpose of the AI tool is not to take over the entire creative process. The company focuses specifically on automating time-consuming and repetitive tasks. In one of the examples shown during the demo, Firefly AI Assistant was seen randomly arranging the position, size and color tones of hundreds of circles within Illustrator. It was stated that it is possible to perform the same process manually, but this requires significant time and effort.

However, Firefly AI Assistant does not currently work as an artificial intelligence agent that completely controls the computer. Users can ask how to perform certain operations, but the system does not take over the mouse and perform step-by-step operations. Adobe states that the current approach aims to enable users to spend less time on technical details and focus more on creative decision-making processes.

The version of Firefly AI Assistant in Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Frame.io is available in public beta as of today. The renewed Firefly creative AI studio is currently in private beta. Adobe is gradually distributing access to this experience through a waiting list. The company’s latest announcement shows it is accelerating its efforts to embed generative AI tools directly at the center of professional content production software. It will become clearer in the coming period to what extent these integrations will make a difference in their daily workflows, especially for professionals working in the field of design and video production.
