AccuWeather comes to ChatGPT: Weather is now in chat

Continuing its approach to bring weather services to broader digital platforms, AccuWeather has introduced a new integration with ChatGPT. According to the statement made by the company, users will now be able to directly access AccuWeather data via ChatGPT and answer their weather questions with a chat-based experience. While this development offers an alternative way of using classical weather applications, it especially targets users looking for artificial intelligence-supported interaction. However, the extent to which this new approach is practical compared to the direct flow of information offered by existing weather apps remains a matter of debate.

With the new integration, users can ask their questions about the weather directly from the chat screen after connecting the AccuWeather application to their ChatGPT account. This system not only provides general predictions; It can also provide more detailed recommendations based on specific time periods. For example, questions such as what time of day would be more appropriate to go for a run or what the chances of precipitation are during a planned holiday can be answered with more contextual answers. In addition, it becomes possible for users to get information through natural language instead of examining classical prediction tables.

Different AccuWeather datasets will be available on ChatGPT

The information presented includes featured datasets from AccuWeather. Thanks to the MinuteCast feature, short-term, minute-by-minute precipitation forecasts are shared, while temperature values โ€‹โ€‹felt with measurements such as RealFeel and RealFeel Shade are conveyed in more detail. However, this data is already available through AccuWeather’s own app and website. Therefore, it seems that the main difference offered by the integration is the presentation style rather than the variety of data.

On the other hand, the artificial intelligence-supported weather query approach may provide convenience in some user scenarios. Especially for users who want to evaluate multiple variables at the same time, getting a comprehensive answer with a single question can save time. However, it’s not clear whether using a chat-based system for a simple weather check is necessary for everyone.

This move by AccuWeather is considered as a continuation of the company’s tendency to adapt to new technologies. As a matter of fact, the company previously offered a virtual reality-based weather application for the Samsung Gear VR platform in 2017. Although such initiatives have not been widely adopted by the masses, the company appears to be open to trying different platforms.
