Following the terrorist attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries campus (TUSAŞ) in Ankara, there are serious problems in accessing social media platforms across Türkiye. The explosion at the entrance of the TAI campus in Kahramankazan district stood out as the most striking part of the attack.
Shortly after the attack, a broadcast ban was imposed on the incident by court order. At the same time, serious access problems arose on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. Users can only connect to these platforms via VPN. It is thought that these problems occurred as a result of narrowing the bandwidth, but there is no official statement made by the competent authorities on this issue yet.
TAI statement from the Presidential Directorate of Communications
Following the incident, the Center for Combating Disinformation under the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications made a statement in order to prevent misinformation spreading on social media. In the statement, it was emphasized that the unfounded claims regarding the attack on TAI facilities should not be relied upon and it was requested to follow the information coming from official sources. In the statement, “Take into consideration the statements from official sources regarding the events at TAI’s Kahramankazan facilities. “Do not believe the unfounded claims.”
Access to YouTube and TikTok is also restricted
NetBlocks’ data shows that access to X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok was restricted following the attack.
