A significant success in optical transmission from Turkcell and Huawei

Turkcell and Huawei broke new ground in the world by pushing the limits in technological innovation. The two companies performed an optical transmission test at a speed of 2.4 Tbps, and with this success, they opened the door to a new era in data transmission technologies. The test was carried out on a live network, at a distance of 160 kilometers between Tekirdağ Data Center and Edirne Data Center. It is stated that this test is not only a technology trial, but also aims to develop a solution that can respond to increasing data demands.

This field test is a response to the need for massive data traffic arising from the rapid proliferation of 5G, artificial intelligence and ultra-high-definition video technologies. So much so that network traffic is expected to triple current levels in the next five years. This situation makes it necessary to reshape optical transmission technologies with more advanced infrastructures. This joint work by Turkcell and Huawei constitutes an important starting point for this need.

The high-speed future of optical transmission technology

In the test, dual carrier coherent card technology was used, allowing a speed of 2.4 Tbps to be reached. This technology is equipped with features such as high-baud rate broadband modulator, advanced nonlinear compensation algorithm and smart neuron function module. This advanced system detects complex connection conditions in the network environment in real time and quickly adapts to optimize performance. As a result, signal distortions during optical transmission are minimized and network performance is significantly increased.

This technological achievement stands out not only in terms of speed but also reliability and efficiency. These innovations in optical transmission promise to provide more sustainable and cost-effective solutions for data centers and network operators in the future. Huawei’s innovative approach in this field showed itself with concrete results in the cooperation with Turkcell.

Turkcell Deputy General Manager Responsible for Network Technologies Prof. Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör made important statements while evaluating this project. Güngör said, “Turkcell aims to provide a superior experience to its customers by pioneering innovative technologies. “This ultra-fast DWDM technology, which we have implemented with Huawei, is a reflection of this goal,” he said. These words of Güngör once again demonstrated the company’s claim to technology leadership.

Huawei Transport Network Systems Unit Head Victor Zhou said, “This test we carried out together with Turkcell is the beginning of a new era in the field of optical communication. “Huawei will continue to develop high-speed and sustainable solutions with global collaborations,” he said. These statements of Zhou point out the strong foundations of Huawei’s global technology strategy.

The success of this test reveals not only the technological capabilities of the two companies, but also how the network infrastructures of the future will be shaped. Especially the widespread use of 5G technology makes the need for higher speed and capacity inevitable. In this context, the development of such innovative solutions by leading companies such as Turkcell and Huawei plays a critical role in the digital transformation process.

As a result, this optical transmission test once again showed how advanced the innovation efforts in the telecommunications sector have reached. Such successes could be the beginning of waves of innovation that spread across the industry. While faster, reliable and efficient network services are paving the way for users, the technology world is preparing for the communication infrastructures of the future. Turkcell and Huawei’s cooperation provides an example of how comprehensive this transformation can be.
