Agility Robotics has developed a new technology for warehouse and production facilities. Digit 5 introduced its humanoid robot. According to the company’s statement, the robot can lift up to 22.7 kilograms for repetitive tasks and can be charged in nine minutes after 90 minutes of working time. These figures tell us more about how powerful a robot can be in an all-day workflow than how powerful it is on its own. Agility aims to launch early access in the first half of 2027.
The new leg and actuator layout provides a 40 percent higher carrying capacity than the previous generation. Digit 5’s holder tips can be changed; Thus, the same body can undertake tasks such as carrying boxes, giving parts to the machine or preparing materials at different stations. The company says the robot is 1.81 meters tall and weighs 129 kilograms. The arm reach reaches a height of up to 2.2 meters; This is in line with the goal of accessing shelves organized by people.
Agility places particular emphasis on the new safety scheme. When the robot detects a person, it can change direction, stop or move to a sitting position. Visual and audio warnings inform the environment about the intention to move; An independent safety controller also manages dangerous proximity response. The company argues that this design will reduce the need for traditional physical barriers. It should be noted that this does not mean automatic approval for barrier-free use in every facility, and installation and local security assessments will be made separately.
Nine minutes of charging on the battery side, combined with 90 minutes of operating time, gives a 10 to 1 operating/charging ratio. Agility predicts more than 20 hours of productive work in 24 hours with appropriate task distribution. The actual result will depend on the weight of the load transported, the travel distance and the work order of the facility. It is not possible to say that the same efficiency will be obtained in every warehouse just by looking at the technical value.
When will Digit 5 work in businesses?
The company’s previous Digit 4 release clocked over 65,000 total hours at customer sites in North America. Agility reports that the robots at the GXO facility reached the 100 thousand transport box threshold and recorded approximately 98 percent accuracy during the mission. These data are not considered direct field results for Digit 5; It shows the knowledge on which the new model is based. Once the first real applications begin, safety and efficiency claims will also be able to be measured.
Agility states that it has received multi-year orders worth over $300 million for Digit 5 as of May 2026. Some of these orders are subject to the fulfillment of the conditions in the contract. The fleet of robots will be connected to warehouse management systems with Agility Arc software; The aim is to monitor the flow between different operating points and conveyors. This corporate structure clearly distinguishes the product from demonstration robots intended for the home.
Digit 5’s first commercial targets outside North America are the European Union and the United Kingdom. Agility plans to open public access by the end of 2027 by completing the necessary marking and regulatory processes. A delivery schedule for Türkiye has not been announced. The concrete value of the robot will depend on its ability to work safely and for a long time in the workspace it shares with people, rather than its announcement video.
