Lexar announced Muse, which it introduced as the world’s thinnest portable SSD, at the IFA 2026 fair held in Germany. Resembling a thin metal card, the device draws attention with its body that tapers to 3.8 mm at its thickest point and 1 mm at the edges.
Muse, which has a one-piece precision-machined metal body, will be available with 512 GB and 1 TB capacity options. The drive offers read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s. Instead of a standard USB-C port, the device comes with a special SnapLink cable with magnetic pogo-pin connection; This means that classic USB-C cables cannot be used directly.
According to Lexar’s official announcement, Muse is compatible with iPhone 15 and later models with USB-C input, iPad, Mac and other USB-C devices. The drive, which can be held magnetically via MagSafe on compatible iPhone models, also supports recording 4K 120 fps ProRes video directly to disk on compatible devices.
The price has not been announced, it will go on sale in the last quarter of 2026.
Lexar is targeting Muse, targeting content creators and positioning it as a solution to the quest for fast external storage without sacrificing volume. The company has not yet announced the price of the product; Muse is planned to be available in the fourth quarter of 2026.
