According to the news based on Mark Gurman, the product will analyze the environment with visual artificial intelligence and send notifications only in important situations. It is also claimed that the company is preparing a paid security service along with the camera. Apple has yet to officially confirm the hardware or service.
Allegedly, the system will not subject the user to a stream of recordings throughout the day, unlike traditional cameras. The camera will evaluate the images it receives at regular intervals and create a notification when it detects an unusual event. In this way, routine movements at home and meaningful developments in terms of security can be distinguished. It is not disclosed where the images are processed and how long they are stored.
Apple’s existing HomeKit Secure Video infrastructure links footage from supported cameras to iCloud+ plans. The company’s security document details end-to-end protection and authorization for home video recordings. The new camera can expand on this foundation with Apple Intelligence features. Still, the subscription price, storage limit, and compatibility with third-party HomeKit products are unknown.
Apple announced features such as natural language clip search and video descriptions for compatible HomeKit Secure Video cameras in 2026. If the camera and doorbell work under a common subscription, it can collect in-home and entrance area images in a single application. The Home app can be at the center of these notifications and give alerts via Apple TV or HomePod. However, there is no confirmed timetable for the products to be released at the same time.
Apple’s entry into the market will make the monthly service fee as important as the hardware price when choosing a security camera. Local processing capacity, encryption of records, and facial recognition options can be decisive in users’ decisions. Even if the company’s claim that it will launch in 2027 turns out to be true, regional access may be delayed later.
