Oppo Reno 17 may come close to the Find X series on the camera side

Oppo is considering the option of using an external telephoto converter in the Reno 17 series, which it has not yet introduced. The information shared by Chinese source Smart Pikachu suggests that the company is working on such an accessory for the Reno family, but Oppo has not confirmed the support at this stage. If the external lens idea is implemented, Reno 17 users will be able to add additional optical magnification to the phone’s existing telephoto camera. This move could also bring the camera accessory approach used by Oppo in the Find X series to a wider product family.

The word “evaluating” used by the leak is important here. Oppo has not yet shared any information about which Reno 17 model the accessory will support, the magnification of the lens, or whether it will be sold separately from the box. For this reason, the telephoto converter should not be considered a definitive feature for the Reno 17, Reno 17 Pro or any other member of the series. 91mobiles also reports that Oppo is testing the accessory and it is not yet clear whether the product will be on sale with the final phones.

Oppo’s current products allow us to better understand the approach behind this rumor. Prepared for Find X9 Pro, Hasselblad Teleconverter works with the phone’s 200 megapixel telephoto camera. 3.28x optical converter uses and system 230mm equivalent focal length, 10x optical zoom It carries. When we look at Oppo’s official product page, we see that the company has positioned this accessory specifically for concert, wildlife and distant detail shooting scenarios. Therefore, the possible solution to be developed for Reno17 does not have to be the same accessory, but the Find X9 Pro provides a concrete example of how Oppo implements such a system.

The Reno 16 series is already a strong starting point on the telephoto side. Oppo’s global Reno 16 page features the standard Reno 16 model 50-megapixel telephoto portrait camera and 3.5x optical zoom states that it offers. On the Reno 16 Pro side, the company combines the 200 megapixel main camera with a 50 megapixel telephoto portrait camera. If external converter support reaches the Reno 17 family, Oppo can aim to achieve a longer focal length by placing an additional optical element in front of the existing telephoto camera, rather than simply increasing the digital zoom ratio.

What can the telephoto converter change for Reno 17?

The main advantage of external telephoto lenses is that they achieve long focal lengths without the phone manufacturer having to make room inside the body for a much larger periscope system. In return, the user has to carry additional lenses, compatible cases and mounts. The current kit prepared for Find X9 Pro also includes a magnetic case, mounting ring and lens mounting part in addition to the lens. Therefore, if a similar system comes for Reno17, we can say that it will appeal to users who shoot long distances during concerts, sports events or travel, rather than ease of daily use.

Here, the location of the Reno series also becomes important. Oppo offers the Reno 16 family in the global market with Reno 16, Reno 16 Pro and Reno 16 F models, in standard and Pro models. 6.32 inch OLED screenin the F model 6.57 inch OLED screen is using. The camera approach of the series is centered around a 50-megapixel ultra-wide selfie camera, telephoto portrait camera and software tools for content production. While telephoto converter support continues this line, it can bring the Reno family one step closer to the camera accessories of the Find series.

Reno17 release date and price have not been clarified yet

Oppo, 29 Augusts as of He did not announce the launch date or prices of the Reno 17 series. Gizmochina points to November for Reno 17, based on the May launch of the Reno 16 series in China and the approximately six-month product cycle in the Reno family. However, this date is not Oppo’s statement, but an estimate based on the current product calendar. For the same reason, we cannot say for now that the telephoto converter will be released with the series or that all Reno 17 models will support the accessory.

Long story short, Oppo is considering the idea of an external telephoto converter in the Reno 17 family, but the leak does not confirm a productized feature yet. If the company implements this plan, it will open the special camera accessory approach in the Find X series to Reno users. Considering the Reno 16’s 3.5x optical telephoto camera, the external lens can take the camera capabilities of the series to a different point, especially in longer distance shots. For price, compatibility, optical magnification rate and sales date, we need to wait for Oppo’s official Reno 17 announcement.
