Samsung Galaxy A58 appeared earlier than expected

After introducing the Galaxy A57 to users in March, Samsung seems to have started preparations for the Galaxy A58, which will be the continuation of this model. The phone, which has not yet been announced by Samsung, appeared for the first time with records in the GSMA Association database. According to the information here, the Galaxy A58 will carry the SM-A586x model number family. SM-A5860, seen directly in the database, points to the version that Samsung has prepared for the Chinese market. Although there is no information yet about the technical specifications of the device, this record shows that work on one of the future models of the Galaxy A series is continuing.

The model numbering of the Galaxy A58 appears to be in line with the layout used by Samsung on the current Galaxy A series. The last number or letter in SM-A586x will vary depending on the market in which the device will be sold. Therefore, it is likely that other model numbers starting with SM-A586 for different regions will appear in the databases of various certification and regulatory institutions in the future. However, the GSMA record does not give any clues about the phone’s processor, screen, camera system, battery capacity or charging features for now. Therefore, it is necessary to wait for more detailed certification records or official statements from Samsung to say what hardware changes the Galaxy A58 will bring compared to the Galaxy A57.

Galaxy XCover FR is also being prepared along with Samsung Galaxy A58

Galaxy A58 is not the only new Samsung phone to appear in the GSMA database. There is also another device in the records called Galaxy XCover FR and bearing the model number SM-G778x. The model number of the specific version in the database is stated as SM-G778B. It appears that the Galaxy However, as with the Galaxy A58, the detailed technical specifications of this device have not yet been revealed.

Unlike Samsung’s standard Galaxy models, the Galaxy XCover family focuses on durability features for harsher operating conditions. The current models of the series are designed especially for field workers, corporate users and people who use their phones in outdoor conditions. For this reason, the new model can be expected to feature durability, long-term use and corporate management features. However, the GSMA registration does not provide a definitive explanation as to what the FR in the name “Galaxy XCover FR” means or which of the existing XCover models the device will directly replace. The possibility of Samsung making changes to the final product name should not be ignored until the official announcement comes.

Galaxy XCover 7 Pro, one of the most current models in Samsung’s XCover series, was introduced in 2025. Therefore, it is possible that the SM-G778B seen in the GSMA database is an early indicator of the company’s preparations to update its rugged phone family. However, a model number added to the database does not alone confirm the product’s introduction date. While there may be months between the certification process and the commercial announcement, it is also possible for some devices to be offered under different names in certain markets. The more detailed picture about the Galaxy XCover FR will become clear once the device starts appearing on different certification bodies.

On the Galaxy A58 side, the first sign has been received that Samsung is continuing its annual Galaxy A series renewal schedule. It’s too early for technical comparisons with the Galaxy A57, as the GSMA registration doesn’t provide much information at this stage other than the phone’s existence and model number. Similarly, it is unknown in which areas the Galaxy XCover FR will change against the existing XCover 7 Pro. What the two devices have in common is that records have emerged showing that Samsung is preparing new models for both the Galaxy A family, which appeals to a wide user base, and the durability-oriented XCover series. The upcoming certification registrations will enable a more concrete evaluation of details that are currently missing, especially the processor, connection options, battery and camera hardware.
