Windows 11 right-click menu gets faster, unnecessary options are reduced

Microsoft, Windows 11 right click menu It introduced changes that made it faster, simpler and customizable to Insider users on August 17. The company aims to increase the opening speed of the menu while reducing the crowding of options added by third-party applications. Moreover, new settings provide the opportunity to change the appearance of basic commands and hide application options you do not want. For now, Microsoft is testing these features with a limited group of users in the Experimental channel.

Since the release of Windows 11 in 2021, Microsoft has been using a different design in the right-click menu from Windows 10. The company moved the Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Share and Delete commands to the icons at the top. On the other hand, a significant part of the old commands “Show more options” continues to support the option. Microsoft’s support document also explains that commands left over from Windows 10 can still be accessed through this option.

Microsoft states that many commands added by applications over time crowd the menu and prolong the opening time. That’s why the company shows fewer options on the default screen while maintaining direct access to frequently used commands. Additionally, File Explorer runs additional processes because third-party applications run their own extensions with every right-click. New Windows 11 updateAccording to Microsoft’s statement, it also focuses on reducing this overhead.

The company had actually already started simplification work on the right-click menu. In November 2025, Microsoft gathered the options for compressing a ZIP file, copying the path, setting the desktop background, and rotating the image in a submenu. It also moved the commands added by cloud services to their own submenus. Microsoft then stopped the distribution of these changes in March 2026 and announced that it would work on additional improvements.

Microsoft leaves control of the right-click menu to the user

Located under the new menu “Customize menu” The command directly opens the Personalization section in the Settings application. From here it becomes possible to turn on and off Windows commands such as Send, Create Shortcut and Print. In addition, you can keep the options added by applications in the main menu, move them to the submenu, or hide them completely. In particular, being able to add the Print command back to the menu offers an additional choice compared to the current Windows 11 layout.

Microsoft is also adding the option to change the appearance of the Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete, and Share commands. So you can use these commands instead of a horizontal row of icons. Lines of text like in Windows 10 You can sort by . It will also be possible to move the Properties command to the bottom of the menu. With these options, Microsoft preserves the existing Windows 11 menu and offers a different layout to those who prefer the old usage style.

Company innovations Build 26340.9212 on Experimental channel and gradually opens the features to Insider users. Therefore, not every computer using the same version may show the new menu immediately. Microsoft also states that it may change Insider features during the testing process or not bring them to the general Windows version at all. The public release date has not been announced yet, but existing Windows 11 users continue to use the old right-click menu for now.
