HMD is working on a new clamshell phone after the 2660 Flip, which it introduced at MWC in March last year. The design and main technical features of the model, which is said to come under the name HMD 2760 Flip, have been revealed with a new leak. The most striking aspect of the phone is that it will switch from the classic feature phone software to an Android-based operating system. According to leaked information, HMD 2760 Flip will work with Icon OS 13 using Android 13 Go. Thus, the device is expected to offer access to the Google Play Store and have a wider selection of applications than traditional clamshell phones.
The predecessor of HMD 2760 Flip, 2660 Flip, was offered with the KaiOS operating system. Therefore, the choice of Android 13 Go based Icon OS 13 will be one of the most obvious differences between the two models. Android Go is known as the version of Android prepared for devices with low memory and limited hardware resources. Therefore, it does not seem surprising that it is used with such modest hardware as the 2 GB RAM mentioned in the leak. Google Play Store support can also differentiate the HMD 2760 Flip from standard feature phones in terms of being able to use WhatsApp, maps, music or different communication applications. However, the extent to which Android applications will work with the small screen and physical keypad will be one of the main points that will determine the daily usage experience of the device.
HMD 2760 Flip features are complemented by Android-based software
According to the leak, the HMD 2760 Flip, which has 4G connection support, will have a 2.8-inch LCD screen on the inside. It is stated that there will be a 1.77-inch second screen outside the cover to display notifications and basic information. While Unisoc T310 is preferred on the processor side of the phone, it is claimed that this chip will be accompanied by 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. In addition, it will be possible to expand the storage space thanks to the microSD card slot. Although this hardware seems quite limited compared to today’s standard Android phones, considering Android Go’s lower system requirements, it seems that the device will focus on basic communication and light application needs.
Camera features also reflect the entry-level positioning of the HMD 2760 Flip. It is reported that there will be a 5 megapixel resolution camera on the back of the phone, and a VGA resolution camera on the front. This camera system does not target the image quality offered by current smartphones and seems to be aimed more at basic needs such as video calling or quick photo taking. In addition, it is stated that the device will come with a battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh. Having small screens and using a platform that focuses on low power consumption, such as the Unisoc T310, can provide an advantage in terms of usage time, even if the battery capacity seems relatively low.
In terms of connection options, it goes a little beyond the usual limits of feature phones. It is claimed that HMD 2760 Flip will offer mobile hotspot support in addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. USB Type-C port, microSD card slot and 3.5 mm headphone output are also among the leaked features. In addition, it is stated that the phone will have a touchpad; It may be possible that this component makes navigating the Android interface easier compared to physical arrow keys. However, there is no detailed information yet on how exactly the touchpad is positioned and how the Icon OS 13 interface is adapted to the clamshell phone form.
On the design side, it seems that HMD will maintain a familiar line from past Nokia models. According to the information accompanying the leak, HMD 2760 Flip will have a design very similar to the Nokia 2660 Flip released in 2022. It is also claimed that the phone will be offered in three color options: Black, Cyan and Pink. Since HMD has not yet officially announced the 2760 Flip, the leaked technical specifications and color options should not be considered final information. However, if the Android 13 Go-based Icon OS 13 claim is confirmed, 2760 Flip may be one of the interesting options that combines the use of a physical button clamshell phone with access to the Google Play Store; On the other hand, the old Android version, 2 GB RAM and low-resolution cameras clearly reveal the limitations of the device.
