RAW files store the image data recorded by the camera sensor with less processing than JPEG. This provides a wider range of adjustments to exposure, white balance, shadows and highlights. Previous Android versions of Snapseed have relied heavily on the RAW side. to DNG files was focusing. Snapseed 4.1 directly incorporates different camera manufacturers’ own formats into the mobile editing process.

Google’s Snapseed support page, on the other hand, still shows outdated descriptions for Android that are mainly focused on DNG. The current release notes on Google Play clearly list ARW, RAF, NEF, CR3, ORF and PEF support. Therefore, the most current file list is in the 4.1 notes on the app’s store page. Google also states that it will add other RAW formats to the list in future updates.

Snapseed 4.1 not only increases the scope of camera files, it also improves the undo options used during editing. Users can now undo or reapply many changes they have made to their favorite tools. Thus, it is possible to return to the previous step and then turn the change back on, without completely turning off a setting. This option helps to proceed in a more controlled manner, especially in long editing processes where multiple settings are applied consecutively.

In addition, Google says that it has added various bug fixes and general improvements to the update. The company does not publish a detailed list of each of these changes. Store notes highlight expanded RAW support and in-tool undo operations as the release’s main innovations. Users can install the update to the existing Snapseed application via Google Play.
