Apple has announced a new step towards strengthening its ties with the app developer ecosystem in Europe. The company announced that it will open the first Apple Developer Center on the continent in Berlin, Germany. The center, which will be located in the Mitte district of Berlin, is planned to become operational this year. Thus, Apple will add Europe to its physical support points for developers. There are already similar centers in Bengaluru, Cupertino, Shanghai and Singapore.
The new center will offer training and technical support to people who develop software for Apple platforms. Here, participants will be able to attend various workshops on iOS for iPhones, iPadOS for iPads, macOS for Mac computers, watchOS for Apple Watch devices, tvOS for the Apple TV platform and visionOS used in the Apple Vision Pro title. These events are aimed to help new developers adapt to the Apple ecosystem faster and to help experienced teams closely follow current developments on the platforms.
In addition, the center will serve not only as a training area but also as a working environment where direct technical support can be received. Developers will be able to have one-on-one meetings with Apple experts whenever they need. The company states that the center will also include consultancy areas and private laboratories. Apple also states that there will be experts who can provide support in different languages. This statement indicates that expert support can be offered both in different spoken languages and in various software development areas.
Apple expands investments in developers in Europe
The new headquarters in Berlin isn’t Apple’s only push towards the developer community in Europe. The company has an Apple Developer Academy program operating in Naples, Italy. In addition, technology and software development training is offered within the scope of Apple Foundation Programs in Italy and France. While these programs aim to provide basic skills to those who are new to the field of application development, they also provide opportunities for more experienced developers to advance in the Apple ecosystem.
On the other hand, Apple continues its economic support programs for application developers. Within the scope of the App Store Small Business Program, developers and small-scale companies with annual revenues below 1 million dollars can benefit from a discount on App Store commission rates. Thanks to the program, a lower rate of 15 percent is applied compared to the standard commission rate. This contributes to reducing costs, especially for independent developers and small teams.
The data shared by Apple also reveals the scale reached by the App Store ecosystem in Europe. According to the company, App Store platforms across Europe reached an average of 150 million weekly users last year. This figure is remarkable as it shows the size of the app economy in the region and the potential it offers for developers. This investment, which comes at a time when the European Union’s regulations for digital markets are intensely discussed, will also allow Apple to increase its direct contact with the developer community.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, stated that Europe is home to a strong developer community developing innovative applications. Prescott stated that supporting developers with the right tools and resources enables better products to emerge.
