It has been claimed that Meta is working on an artificial intelligence-supported necklace device that it plans to test next year. According to an internal memo seen by The Information, the product in question could constitute the next round of Meta’s recent investments in wearable artificial intelligence products. The company’s work in this field is not limited to just a new device. The same document also states that Meta is preparing to expand its AI-supported glasses series and offer new subscription services for corporate users. These developments point to an effort on behalf of Meta to make its activities on the hardware side more visible.
It is thought that the basis of the necklace device that is on the agenda is the technologies of Limitless, the artificial intelligence initiative that Meta acquired at the end of 2025. Limitless had developed an artificial intelligence device that users could wear around their necks or attach to their clothing. This product could record users’ conversations and offer functions such as taking notes or editing information with artificial intelligence support. During the acquisition announcement, Meta stated that this move would accelerate the development of artificial intelligence-supported wearable devices. The information that has now emerged shows that this statement has begun to turn into concrete products.
Although artificial intelligence-supported wearable devices have been one of the areas that have attracted attention in the technology sector in the last few years, they have had difficulty in attracting the expected attention from consumers. Products such as Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1 were introduced with high expectations, but remained at the center of criticism in terms of usage experience and practical usefulness. In addition, the fact that devices that can record continuously raise questions about privacy is among the factors that negatively affect the adoption rate. Despite this, technology companies have not given up on this category and continue to develop more functional products.
Meta aims to diversify wearable artificial intelligence products
According to the information contained in the internal memo, Meta’s plans are not limited to the artificial intelligence necklace. It is stated that the company is considering expanding its existing smart glasses product family with more models. The smart glasses offered by Meta in collaboration with Ray-Ban have recently become one of the company’s most striking products on the hardware side. Offering features such as camera, voice commands and Meta AI integration, these glasses have managed to reach a wider user base compared to many other wearable artificial intelligence products.
In addition, it is claimed that Meta is preparing a subscription service for corporate customers under the name “Wearables for Work”. Details regarding the scope of this service have not been shared yet. However, it is evaluated that artificial intelligence-supported wearable devices for the business world can be used in areas such as meeting recordings, note taking, task tracking and intra-team communication. It also seems possible that software and services to be developed for corporate users will support Meta’s hardware revenues.
In addition to all this, Meta’s hardware-focused Reality Labs unit has been on the agenda with high costs in recent years. According to the company’s financial results, Reality Labs announced an operating loss of approximately $4 billion in the first quarter of this year. In addition to virtual and augmented reality projects, artificial intelligence-supported wearable products are also under the responsibility of this unit. It seems that Meta aims to improve the performance of this section with new devices and services. However, for the artificial intelligence necklace and similar products to be successful, not only technical capabilities but also users’ privacy expectations and daily use needs will need to be met. For this reason, the wearable products that Meta will introduce in the coming period will be closely monitored for the future of the industry in this category.
