Stellantis is moving into the Qualcomm era with its electric vehicles

Stellantis announced that it will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions in its new generation electric vehicle platforms. According to the company’s statement, this technology will deliver unified processing power across the entire vehicle, including in-car infotainment systems, connectivity features and advanced driver assistance systems. While it is stated that the new infrastructure will be used in different brands within Stellantis, it is aimed to increase cost efficiency thanks to platform standardization. Thus, a more common software and hardware infrastructure will be created among the brands within the group.

The collaboration between the two companies involves integrating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions with Stellantis’ STLA Brain electronics and software platform. Stellantis had previously introduced the STLA Brain platform as a core component of its software-driven vehicle architecture. The structure in question makes it possible for vehicles to receive remote updates and to add new features later. On the Qualcomm side, solutions developed for high processing power, connection technologies and driving support systems attract attention.

The new technology infrastructure, created according to the information shared by Stellantis, aims to accelerate vehicle development processes and improve user experience with constantly updated features. In addition, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride Pilot ADAS platform also stands out as one of the important parts of the agreement. This system can scale from basic safety features to Level 2+ hands-free driving assistance technologies. Companies state that more advanced autonomous driving functions may be supported in the future.

Qualcomm and Stellantis partnership accelerates software-driven vehicle transformation

The transition to software-based systems in the automotive industry has accelerated in recent years. Electric vehicle manufacturers, in particular, are trying to compete not only with their battery and engine technologies, but also with their digital infrastructure. At this point, semiconductor companies such as Qualcomm are becoming more visible in the automotive industry. The company’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform is currently used by different manufacturers in infotainment systems and connected vehicle solutions.

Ned Curic, Director of Engineering and Technology at Stellantis, said that customers expect new generation experiences that are constantly evolving and updatable. According to Curic, the collaboration with Qualcomm will enable the faster and more efficient spread of connected technologies to all brands within the group. Nakul Duggal, General Manager of Qualcomm Technologies Automotive Department, stated that the partnership between the two companies now goes beyond the field of connectivity and digital cockpit and includes advanced driver support systems and autonomous driving.

In addition, it seems that Stellantis has invested more in software-oriented vehicle technologies recently. Group; It plans to bring together brands such as Peugeot, Opel, Fiat, Jeep, Citroën and Alfa Romeo on a common software infrastructure. This approach can provide an advantage to the manufacturer in terms of both reducing development costs and being able to offer faster updates in different markets. However, it will become clearer in the future to what extent the use of a common platform across all brands will standardize the user experience and preserve the characteristics of different brands.
