Samsung is trying to make room for the S Pen in its trifoldable device

New details have emerged about the triple-folding phone concept that Samsung has been working on for a while. After the company’s first Galaxy Z TriFold model was removed from sale in some markets, all eyes are on the new generation device, known as its successor. Although there is no official statement from Samsung yet; A new patent discovered by David from the xleaks7 team shows that Samsung is working on S Pen integration in this product category.

According to the resulting patent drawings, Samsung is designing an S Pen slot directly integrated into the body of the tri-folding device. According to the information in the patent document, the pen is held in place with the help of a magnetic system and is automatically charged when placed inside the device. This approach reminds us of the integrated S Pen solution used by Samsung in the Galaxy S26 Ultra model. However, due to the tri-fold structure, some differences are noteworthy in the internal layout of the device.

According to the design in the patent, it seems that the left part of the foldable screen is kept narrower to make room for the S Pen slot. This creates a non-symmetrical structure in the general appearance of the device. On the other hand, it is understood that Samsung has tried various solutions in terms of space management in terms of engineering. Since the battery, hinge system and screen layers already take up a significant amount of space in foldable phones, internal pen support may pose additional technical difficulties.

Samsung aims for thinner tri-folding model

Although patent applications do not directly mean commercial products, they provide important clues about ideas that companies may consider in the future. It is known that Samsung has been working intensively on different form factors on the foldable phone side in recent years. Despite this, it is often seen that not every patent turns into a final product. For this reason, it remains unclear for now whether the resulting design will be put into direct use.

In addition, some previous leaks suggested that Samsung was aiming for a thinner and lighter structure in the second generation triple-folding model. Such a design approach may make placing the internal S Pen inside the device more complicated. Especially in foldable phones, a delicate balance needs to be struck between the goal of thinness and battery capacity, durability and internal accessory support.

S Pen support in Samsung’s current foldable models is not a new approach. Some members of the Galaxy Z Fold series offer external S Pen support. However, these models do not have a special space inside the body for the pen. Users need to carry the pen separately. An internal solution may provide an advantage in terms of portability. Despite this, the impact it will have on device thickness and weight seems to be one of the determining factors in terms of user experience.
