DJI Osmo Pocket 4P launch date announced

DJI announced the official launch date for Osmo Pocket 4P, which is candidate to be the most advanced model of the Pocket series so far. The company’s new compact camera model will be announced globally on May 14 at the Cannes Film Festival in France. While the pre-order process started on DJI’s official website before the launch, some broadcasters and content producers in China began to share early access samples of the device.

The biggest notable change in the new model is seen in the camera system. DJI includes a dual camera setup for the first time in its Pocket series. While the Osmo Pocket 4P retains the 1-inch main sensor in the standard Osmo Pocket 4 model, it also comes with a 3x telephoto camera, which is stated to offer an equivalent focal length of approximately 70 mm. Thus, the device offers a different usage approach than previous generations, which focused only on wide-angle shots.

The addition of the telephoto camera provides greater flexibility, especially for portrait, reportage and cinematic framing shots. Although previous Pocket models were successful in vlogging-focused wide-angle use, users had to turn to digital zoom for shots requiring narrower framing. With the new model, this need decreases to some extent. According to leaks, the main camera also has a variable aperture system that can change between f / 1.7 and f / 2.8. In addition, it is stated that the device will offer up to 12 times hybrid zoom and approximately 6 times lossless zoom, depending on the shooting mode.

DJI Osmo Pocket 4P comes with advanced tracking and display features

It seems that DJI focused on improving not only the camera hardware but also the overall usage experience in the new model. It is stated that Osmo Pocket 4P offers 10-bit D-Log video recording support. This support is especially important for professional content producers who want more flexibility in their color editing processes. In addition, it is said that ActiveTrack 7.0 technology, the new version of the company’s object tracking system ActiveTrack, will also be included in the device.

On the screen side, a larger panel attracts attention. Allegedly, the device will come with a 2.5-inch rotatable touch screen. Thanks to the brightness value of the screen reaching 1000 nits, it is aimed to use it more comfortably in outdoor shooting. It is stated that the battery capacity has been increased to approximately 2000 mAh. Thus, longer usage time can be achieved in long-term shooting compared to previous models.

In addition, the three-axis mechanical stabilization system, one of the main features of DJI’s Pocket series, is preserved in the new model. This system provides smoother images, especially when shooting handheld while walking. It is stated that DJI is also preparing to expand integration with microphone accessories, drone products and other content production equipment. It seems that the company has given more importance to ecosystem connections recently.

Price information has not been officially announced yet. However, the Osmo Pocket 4P model is expected to be positioned above the standard Pocket 4. It is stated that the sales situation in the USA is not finalized. Recently, some DJI products have been on sale with a delay due to regulatory processes in the country.

Osmo Pocket 4P is not positioned as a direct alternative to large mirrorless cameras. Despite this, it looks like a model that appeals to content producers who want to achieve improved image quality and different shooting options with lighter equipment. Especially for mobile users, telephoto camera support and advanced video features take the device to a different point than previous Pocket models.
