Anthropic announced that it will increase usage limits for Claude Code, an artificial intelligence tool focused on software development. According to the company’s statement, this change became possible after the new infrastructure agreement with SpaceX. Under the agreement, Anthropic will be able to benefit from the entire processing capacity of the Colossus 1 data center belonging to the xAI infrastructure. Thus, higher access limits and more flexible usage conditions will be offered, especially for paid Claude Code users.
According to information shared by the company, SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center will gain over 300 megawatts of additional capacity within the next month. It is known that Anthropic has recently made similar infrastructure collaborations with Amazon and Google. Despite this, the agreement with SpaceX attracts attention because it is directly linked to Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence initiative xAI. In addition, the parties announced that they could work together on the development of orbital artificial intelligence processing infrastructure in the future. In the statement, the possibility of a partnership to develop “orbital AI compute capacity” at the multi-gigawatt level was mentioned.
Claude Code users will access higher limits
According to Anthropic’s statement; Claude Code users with Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans will immediately benefit from the new capacity increase. The company stated that five-hour usage limits have been doubled. In addition, “rush hour” restrictions for Pro and Max subscribers are also being removed. On the API side, it was stated that the limits will be increased significantly, especially for Claude Opus models.
Claude Code has become one of the increasingly preferred productive artificial intelligence tools among software developers recently. The system, which was used for processes such as code generation, debugging and project editing, was criticized due to limit problems during periods of heavy use. Thanks to the new infrastructure capacity, it is aimed to provide a more uninterrupted experience, especially in long-term coding sessions. In addition, the increase in API limits also means higher transaction capacity for companies developing Claude-based applications.
On the other hand, Anthropic and Elon Musk have made harsh statements towards each other in the past. Musk recently described Anthropic as “anti-human and evil” and criticized the company’s CEO, Dario Amodei. Despite this, Musk said in his latest post on the X platform that he was impressed by the Anthropic team and that Claude was “probably a good” product. However, Musk stated that the processing capacity can be taken back if the artificial intelligence engages in activities that harm humanity.
In addition to all these, the documents that SpaceX recently submitted to the US Federal Communications Commission also attracted attention. It is stated that the company plans to launch approximately one million satellites in order to create a huge data center infrastructure that will operate in orbit. Although it remains unclear whether this plan will be implemented, it seems that the energy and processing capacity needs of artificial intelligence companies are growing. The agreement made with Anthropic shows that the industry is now in intense competition not only on the software side but also in terms of infrastructure investments.
