The Galaxy Z Fold 8 family, which is expected to be included in Samsung’s foldable phone series, came to the fore with a new form factor. While the model, called “Wide”, offers an alternative to the classic book-style Fold design, the resulting mock-up images clearly reveal the physical differences of the device. Preliminary information reveals that this model marks a significant change in direction in the design approach that has not changed for a long time.
According to leaked information, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide comes with a larger internal screen, unlike the standard model. This panel, which is stated to have a 4:3 aspect ratio, offers a more horizontal use compared to existing Fold models. In addition, it is stated that the outer screen has a structure reminiscent of the first generation Google Pixel Fold. On the other hand, it is stated that the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 model will largely maintain its design line.
The new mock-up images give a more concrete idea about the physical dimensions of the device. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide appears to have a noticeably wider but shorter body than the standard Fold model. This approach can take the handheld ergonomics of the device to a different point. On the other hand, it is among the notable details that the space it offers when closed is closer to the Galaxy Z Flip 8 than expected. This suggests that the device aims to maintain its portability despite the increase in width.

Another striking element in the shared models was the ring structures indicating wireless charging components. Although this detail initially brings to mind the possibility of Qi2 magnetic charging support, it is known that Samsung is cautious about this standard. For this reason, it is considered that the company may choose to continue its current accessory compatibility. However, even small changes on the hardware side can directly affect the user experience.
In addition, it is thought that Samsung is preparing not only for its current user base but also for potential competitors with this new form factor. Especially considering Apple’s foldable iPhone plans, which have been on the agenda for a long time, it seems remarkable that the Wide model focuses on a different usage scenario. This approach may also serve as an experiment to measure the demand for larger-screen foldable devices.
In addition to all this; Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide models are expected to be introduced together. Current claims indicate that the launch date may be July 22. The widescreen experience offered by the new Wide model can be advantageous, especially in terms of multitasking and content consumption. Despite this, it will be clearer in real use how the device will balance issues such as thickness, weight and application compatibility.
