5G was installed on the Istanbul Airport road for 40 km

On the 40 kilometer line between Hasdal Junction and Istanbul Airport in Istanbul 5G infrastructure fully commissioned. With the system installed at 19 different points, the Ministry ensured uninterrupted connection along the entire route and started the testing process. This step allows instantaneous data transfer and smart transportation systems directly affects its use.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that both 5G and fiber infrastructure have been completed on this line, which was selected as the pilot corridor. Study; It was carried out in cooperation with the Transportation, Maritime and Communication Research Center, General Directorate of Highways and Türksat. The project was developed as a local and national R&D study.

The installed system does not only increase the connection speed. With camera infrastructure, road sensors and artificial intelligence-supported analysis tools; Accidents, stopped vehicles, icing or objects falling on the road are instantly detected. The data obtained is transmitted to drivers via variable message boards and mobile application.

Ministry starts testing process in pilot 5G corridor

Meteorological data systems were also integrated into this infrastructure. Thus, drivers are informed in advance, especially in adverse weather conditions. In this way, the Ministry aims to make traffic flow more efficient and reduce unnecessary waiting.

After the installation is completed, tests begin in the field with real-time data flow. System performance will be measured under different traffic densities and variable weather conditions. The data obtained will be used in the development of the software platform.

The central software and mobile application developed within the scope of the project will provide a decision support system by analyzing data from hundreds of sensors. Drivers will be able to access instant traffic and safety information through this application. The data obtained on this line will be used throughout Türkiye. 5G supported transportation will serve as a reference for solutions.
