Facebook has started to introduce new artificial intelligence-based tools for its second-hand shopping platform Marketplace. According to the company’s announcement, these features, developed with the Meta AI infrastructure, aim to make sellers respond faster to incoming messages and facilitate the ad creation process. In addition, summary information about seller profiles is starting to be displayed on the platform and the shipping option can be used more widely. Thus, the aim is to make transaction processes more orderly on both the buyer and seller sides.
The most striking innovation among the new features is the Meta AI system, which enables automatic responses to the first messages sent by recipients. Users selling on Marketplace often encounter similar questions, such as whether the product is still available. Meta AI can create an automatic response draft by analyzing information such as description, price, pickup point and product condition in the ad content. Sellers can enable these automatic responses, preview them, and make any adjustments they deem necessary during the ad creation phase.
This approach is considered a solution to the time loss problem frequently expressed by Marketplace sellers. Especially for products that are in high demand, sellers may have to answer the same questions over and over again. Although it is clearly stated on the platform whether the products are available or not, buyers often prefer to send messages. Despite this, the automatic responses prepared by Meta AI aim to reduce the manual messaging burden of sellers by speeding up the initial communication.
Automatic posting creation and profile summaries with Meta AI
In Facebook Marketplace, artificial intelligence is not limited to message replies. Meta AI also supports the listing creation process. When sellers upload a photo of the product they want to put on sale, the system can analyze the image and create an ad draft. In addition, suggestions are offered for the description of the product and a price recommendation is prepared by looking at similar advertisements in the region. In this way, the ad preparation process is expected to progress faster, especially for people who rarely use the platform.
In addition, summary information about sellers’ Facebook profiles began to appear in the Marketplace interface. Buyers can now see how long a seller has been active on Facebook and their approximate number of friends at the top of their Marketplace page. In addition, information such as the seller’s past advertisements, the categories in which he sells and the evaluations he has received are also presented in summary form. This makes it possible for buyers to get more insight into the seller before making a transaction.
On the other hand, Meta announced that it has also expanded its shipping options. Sellers can now add shipping options to their listings and create prepaid shipping labels. In addition, all orders can be tracked via a single control panel. This approach can contribute to Marketplace’s transformation from a sales environment limited to local meetings to a broader shopping network.
Meta AI integrations aren’t entirely new to Marketplace. The platform previously featured artificial intelligence tools that helped buyers ask the right questions and recommendations based on data analysis for vehicle listings. Despite this, recently announced features show that artificial intelligence is more directly integrated into both communication and ad creation processes.
