8BitDo’s new retro keyboard is on sale with a numeric keypad

8BitDo, known for its retro gaming devices and accessories, has expanded its mechanical keyboard series and introduced a new model that will attract the attention of users. Following the Retro Mechanical Keyboard, which was introduced last summer with its ten-keyless, compact design, this time the Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard model equipped with a numeric keypad is coming to the market. Featuring NES and Famicom design themes, this keyboard brings retro gaming aesthetics to modern workspaces. The company’s new model is available for pre-order on Amazon for $ 119.99 and is expected to be delivered to customers on December 12, 2024.

This new model offers a 108-key layout, allowing users to experience a more comprehensive keyboard experience on Windows and Android systems. Using Kailh Box White V2 switches, the keyboard has durable PBT keycaps like the original model. This type of switch is known for its durability and fast feedback features. The numeric keypad provides additional convenience, especially for users performing data entry and calculations. Special keys such as screen lock and calculator shortcut added to the numeric pad increase the efficiency of the keyboard. In addition, Windows shortcut keys on the keyboard are among the features that will provide convenience in daily use.

8BitDo Retro 108 stands out not only with its key layout but also with its connection options and configuration features. The volume adjustment button located in the upper left corner of the keyboard allows users to quickly control the volume. In addition, with the three-mode connection switch, users can switch between Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless connection or USB connection. While the USB connection offers a significant advantage, especially for users who want low latency, freedom of movement is provided with wireless connections.

One of the most striking features of the keyboard is the programmable “Super Button” keys connected via 3.5 mm cable. These large-sized keys can be assigned to different functions according to users’ wishes, which enriches the keyboard in terms of personalization and customization. Last September, 8BitDo also introduced a special 165-key cover set for the Retro Keyboard. While users can change the appearance of their keyboards as they wish with this cover set, the Retro 108 model has NES and Famicom themed ready-made options without the need for such a change.

8BitDo’s commitment to retro aesthetics is evident in the color scheme and design details used on the keyboard. These design details, inspired by classic game consoles such as NES and Famicom, make the keyboard more than just a functional tool, but also a collector’s item. These features arouse great interest, especially among users who are interested in retro gaming culture.

8BitDo Retro 108 is sold at a more expensive price than the previous model

The Retro 108 keyboard, which has a $20 higher price than the previous model, explains this price difference with the addition of the numeric keypad and increased functional features. In particular, the added numpad makes the keyboard versatile for users who enter data or need numeric keys. 8BitDo aims to offer users a long-term keyboard experience while drawing attention to the durability and lifespan of the keyboard. However, the fact that the keyboard does not support other operating systems such as MacOS may be considered a limiting factor for some users.

As a result, the 8BitDo Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard aims to offer an enhanced user experience with numeric keypad integration and programmable additional key options. This model stands out as an ideal alternative for users looking for a different option by combining retro design with modern functionality.
