16.5 billion dollars of critical AI6 chip agreement between Samsung and Tesla

Tesla, a new generation of artificial intelligence chip within the scope of a long -term production agreement amounting to 16.5 billion dollars AI6Samsung will produce. These chips, which will be produced in Samsung’s factory in Texas, will be used in the new generation of autonomous driving systems of Tesla.

The agreement will be valid starting from 2025 to 2033, and production activities will take place at the advanced semiconductor facility set up Samsung near Austin. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, social media account said that they will directly participate in the chip production process. Musk also stressed that the factory is very close to its own residence. These statements show that Tesla will intervene not only in the design but also in the production phase.

Samsung is currently used in Tesla’s current systems AI4 produces his chip. The new agreement significantly increases the scale of this cooperation. The production of the intermediate generation chip called AI5 will be made by TSMC, a different supplier, and this production will first be carried out in Taiwan and then in Arizona. Tesla aims to prevent possible bottlenecks in the production process by using multiple resources in the supply of chips.

Tesla’s new generation AI6 chip will be produced on the production line to be established in Texas

The AI6 line, which will be included in Samsung’s production facility in Texas, will be based on 2 nanometer class further production technology. However, at the beginning of the production, this technology is expected to start with more mature production processes since the productivity rate may be low. Nevertheless, the fact that the facility is completely allocated to Tesla shows the magnitude of the importance given to this cooperation. The geographically proximity of the facility to Elon Musk will facilitate the follow -up of the production process. In addition, Tesla’s engineering teams will work directly in the production site.

This production agreement for South Korean -based Samsung refers to a new turning point in Foundry, which is Foundry. In 2024, the market share in this area decreased to 7.7 %, especially in the face of TSMC wants to increase its competitiveness. Taking high -volume products such as AI6 chip and requiring special production is part of Samsung’s efforts to strengthen its presence in this area. Although the volume of the chips to be supplied to Tesla within the scope of the agreement is not clearly disclosed, the financial size shows that the scope of the agreement is wide.

Production activities in the factory will be carried out in Samsung’s Taylor Campus, which was completed in 2024. This facility is known as Samsung’s largest semiconductor investment in the United States. It was announced that the total investment was at the level of 17 billion dollars. The Texas province offered various incentives such as tax reduction and infrastructure support to withdraw this investment. Many Samsung suppliers have started to operate in the area where the facility is located.

The financial dimension of the agreement is also quite high. The $ 16.5 billion contract amount corresponds to about 7.6 %of Samsung’s total sales revenue of 2024. When calculated on the current exchange rate, this amount corresponds to approximately 540 billion TL. The entire amount will be paid directly by Tesla. The technical cooperation of the chips during the production process means not only financial, but also an operational partnership.

Elon Musk said in a statement, the production line will be accelerated over time. Musk, the production band will be found in person, he added. The fact that Musk is directly involved in the process reveals how priority Tesla’s goals to artificial intelligence chips are. The characteristics of the AI6 chip are not yet disclosed, but this chip is designed to be used in completely autonomous driving systems.

Information about the technical details of the new chip has not yet been presented to the public. However, the production of production in a special line reveals that this chip is not directly for general purpose, but directly developed to Tesla. AI6, Tesla’s Full Self Driving (FSD) will play a central role in the future of systems. For this reason, the chip is expected to meet high criteria in terms of processing power, energy efficiency and safety standards. After the production of the chip, the technical specifications are expected to be officially shared.
